Guys I used to use light shot - but there’s something so much easier: Literally just type Win + Shift + S for the windows screenshot. It even automatically copies it to your clipboard. Way easier than the snipping tool and more simplistic than light shot.

It’s funny that a MacBook with a Touch Bar is an easy and safe fix to make this screenshotting scam obsolete

It's really not that weird screenshoting babies or kids, I do that a lot with Snapchat pics of my niece and nephew or other things like that just to have them all in the same place (I'm aware that my photos aren't available here because I'm not using lightshot but others may not get that). Yes, there are creepy people but that doesn't make it weird to do anything that creeps do. Actually, I'm now realizing how many random children screenshots I have as well for thing like hairstyle ideas, outfits, activity ideas that sometimes have the kids in the picture doing the activity. If I were to say "I screenshot random children I don't know," that'd definitely be weird but for teachers, parents, aunts, uncle's, etc., not really that strange.

there's another thing like this on EEheat, where you can search IMG #### (any four numbers) and find a bunch of videos that were automatically uploaded without the person who took the video realizing it. you'll find a lot of those hunting cams in the forest that automatically record when they sense something and you can watch a raccoon fight a possum or smth. those are especially interesting, because it was made without a human, so it's kinda surreal. it's weird, but you're much less liable to find random dicks or bank info.

didn't quite know lightshot did this, however, i do use the copy/paste function of lightshot for digital art references and such.

This is old but Windows has had the Win+S snipper tool around this time I think? Maybe sooner but you possibly had to opt in I can't remember. And I'm also pretty sure you can just paste a copied image into discord without uploading it somewhere...

Ok, this will probably get lost. As a user of lightshot myself I have to add, that lightshot doesn't automatically upload every screenshot. The user has the option to upload the screenshot to prnt.sc via the UI. So all theese screenshots were propably uploaded bc they were sent via a messenger service that doesn't allow you to send files or at least sent them in a convenient way.

Wait but don't all computers have a way kf screenshotting then u could just make a folder to put the screenshot in then it's more secure

i myself use lightshot, it only uploads the image if you choose to upload it. Also i dont use it for like personal info and stuff just random memes

If they added at least one more number at the end it would be way harder to get any of this. It’s fully on them for not doing much at all to make it more secure. ADD MORE DIGETS! It’s that simple. Change it from 6 to 15 or maybe even 20. It would be practically impossible to get so many of these if they just added more digits.

Yet even now it’s still a thing, seems like the workaround lightshot implemented was delete innapropiate screenshots but it still took me 1 minute to find one with sensitive information of a company.

For Windows users: if you wanna avoid being doxxed (lol) and screenshot a specific part of the screen without all the hassle, you click Windows + shift + S and you can mark a selection that automatically goes to your clipboard. A LOT of people seem to forget about this built-in Windows feature

But Lightshot doesn't only work for screenshots, I used to play a game named Transformice where I chatted with my friends, and in that game it was impossible to send images, so we used Lightshot a lot to send whatever image, (you can upload images from your pc too, not just screenshots) so that makes me think most of the kids selfies were send by the kids themselves to their friends in games or something like that. Still is irresponsible for the kids to upload their photos there but at least it's not creepy...

lightshot is DEFINITELY at fault for this !!! i'm a comp sci major & just took a course on cyberethics which basically taught us that as programmers and engineers we HAVE to be fully responsible for everything that our programs are capable of. it is a choice of willful ignorance to allow programs like this to exist, counting towards criminal negligence instead of just being a mistake

I find the kids and babies screenshots less creepy actually - many people can be away from their nieces and nephews, grandsons and granddaughters, etc, so they want to keep a picture of them, so they screenshot. Or people want to show someone else a picture of their nephews/grandkids.
