i looked at the website myself, and it is indeed super,, impersonal. it feels like they just want to capitalize on grief. i genuinely considered "cloning" my cat, but it wouldn't be the same as having my old cat. besides, i am NOT paying $35,000 for my cat's "identical twin" (even if it is in two payments)

I guess for me, I can understand it to a point. I have a service dog right now that was born with the perfect temperament for service work and an amazing personality, perfect for my life. I fear every day that my next prospect will not reach my standards that I’ve had for my current service dog, and with my life, if I do get a prospect that does fail out of service work, I’ll have to rehome them which is very sad for both me and the dog. So maybe cloning my current SD would be a better idea, knowing that then I’ll be able to have a dog that will for-sure work, instead of rolling the dice and possibly traumatizing a dog by having to rehome them.

the fact people do this kinda shows how much they don't care about how the dogs actually have personalities and wants and desires and just want a cute looking dog that looks the same like imagine if we did this too humans like cloned your child if they died people would be mortified because we actually see fellow humans as like things were there personalities actually matter

as someone who has lost beloved people and animals, the pain of losing someone and learning to let go is an important part of life. viagen is preying on people at an extremely emotional time, offering them a false sense of connection to their late pets. it’s like those spirit mediums, all fake, that pretend to commune with spirits of deceased loved ones. from a biological standpoint, though, there’s another problem: DNA erodes the more you copy it because replication is an imperfect process. that’s basically why living bodies deteriorate and die as they grow older. the imperfections in DNA copies of new cells causes tissues and thus organs to deteriorate. when you clone a living being, you are copying an already incomplete version of their DNA so it speeds up the process and clones die even faster. this is a very simplified explanation of the process but basically if you want to know more look up “telomeres” and that should get you started.

The cloning bit is not the issue I think. The false advertisement is that you get the same dog. You are not. A dog like any being is formed by their experiences. If you had your dog for example during your childhood when you had all the time in the world to play with them they will have a bond with you that the this new Bud II will not. This might create a false expectation for people and lead to serious issues down the line. I understand it more for the woman who used her dog for money anyway by going to competitions. She wanted a "perfect" breed and that makes sense. It is horrible. But it can work.

Ok I though about it after my last comment, and cloning would actually serve a purpose for really mixed breed dogs. Like mine are so beautiful and perfect and they probably have several different breeds in them. That kinda genetic diversity makes for healthier dog. But thing is, I dunno if I'd ever find dogs like mine again. They're a unique, random breed. That being said, I don't think I'd clone them because I do feel like they're people and it would be weird. There's tons of beautiful mix breeds, I don't need exact clones. But some people might feel differently, and at the end of the day so few people could afford to be doing this I don't think it'd hurt adoption prospects for rescue animals. So it's kinda a victimless crime with potential utility to some folks. EDIT: wait it's not a victimless crime if you count the surrogate dog that has to carry the puppies... Like what kinds life do those doggos lead? It's kinda messed up. A dog can't consent to carrying puppies for a human... So it just feels wrong. Maybe if these dogs like... Give birth once and then go on to live a beautiful life with a loving family then fine... Not so bad. But I'm just picturing these dogs being used to have litter after litter and getting so messed up from it... Eugh, do, so not like that image.
__Kanra__
13 päeva tagasi
My doggos were rescues that I chose specifically because they seemed the most damaged and like they needed a safe place the most. Part of the powerful bond between me and my dog was earning her trust as a puppy when she was so terrified of the world. I could clone her, but the new puppy wouldn't be anything like her. Experiences make the animal, same way they make the person. So cloning your dog seems kinda pointless to me. I mean, I guess my dogs are pavement specials so it'd be cool to be able to replicate their exact mix considering I have no idea what's in them, but like... These guys do get that it's not the same dog right?

TL;DR I enjoy this channel very much and have been binging for a few days since I discovered it. But please stick to the internet drama if you don't know what you're talking about and are at risk of spreading fearmongering over science and typical business practice. The amount of ignorance on science and business in this video is cringeworthy. Prices for any type of technology begins high, because there is an initial investment on developing the product. In the case of cloning, that means years of scientific experimentation before the actual cloning even worked. Salaries, equipment, facilities, and whatever overhead any business takes on has to be paid for years while the product isn't even making the company money. After the product is released, the company charges larger amounts in order to get back those investments as well as continue paying all that overhead. And yeah, a piece of that may go into profits. It's a company, go figure. The more popular the product becomes, the larger of a consumer base that can pay into the company so prices can go down. Once the supply and demand reaches an equilibrium, the price that the product will likely stay around is reached. Yes, the prices are huge at first and $100k or $50k doesn't seem worth it (it's not to me), but that's why the company says in a few years it should go down due to popularity (in this very video as read by D'Angelo). Because consumer adoption of the procedure will go up so they won't have to charge those huge prices to stay afloat. The idea of cloning is not really new, either. The video treats it like such controversial thing. We've been cloning plants for years, for instance. However, people get this weird idea that with animals, it's different. For one, it's not at all extending the pet's life. The original animal dies when it dies. It's only symbolically extending the life of the pet for the owner, because it uses the same DNA to create a copy of the original. If you made a copy of a coke bottle, the copy is not the original. It's looks the same, but it may get scuffed and marked differently due to however you handle it or any other environmental factors, and the original bottle is in no way impacted by its existence. A dead pet that is cloned wouldn't be brought back to life or anything like that. It's just basically like breeding but without the sexual aspect. Clones are basically twins. So if a pet owner wants a new version of the old pet out of sentimentality, I don't see it as so weird. It's not like it's Frankenstein's monster. It's closer to breeding so I see where some animal advocates would say why not just adopt a pet that needs it more. D'Angelo did bring up that point, and I do see the ethical dilemma for those who don't believe breeding animals is good. But if someone wants a specific type of dog and doesn't find it wrong to breed them, cloning really isn't any different to breeding from an ethical standpoint. Also, gestation is a scientific term used to describe the period of carrying a child in the womb. Every mammal has this. Humans have a gestational period of 9 months. There's nothing weird or disgusting or unnatural about the word. It's lack of scientific knowledge that creates this almost phobic reaction to things like scientific words. Things like clones, GMOs, and lab-created life are way more a part of our daily life than most of us even know. I'll admit that there are still very interesting arguments for and against the cloning of animal life, but I didn't hear any in this video.

These articles all make it seem like it's the same dog??? You're not resurrecting it!! You're literally just creating your dog's twin! Sure, there will be some similarities in personality, but it is a different dog. And you're starting out with an old dog's DNA, so the clone will essentially have "pre-aged" and will live a shorter, sicker life. Also, the surrogate mom dogs are usually abused by these companies, forced to endure pregnancy after pregnancy without break. AND, if you still want to go through this nightmare, it's $50,000 minimum. It's a no from me

I heard about this in a youtube video once, and IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, (I might not because I watched it over 3 years ago) the dogs that are clones may look the same, but their personality will not be cloned. Their personality will be as if its a new dog. Because it is a new dog, it just looks the same. So in other words you should adopt.

" would you actually clone a person actually n-" Well you see..... Some people cyro preserve people and others they only preserve their head for the brain so of course I can see cloning happening definitely when you don't have a body to return to to begin with and the cloning will happen years before you actually get "revived" but the part I don't get is how will they make the clone consent to basically dying? Or do they have no rights? I mean whoever made head preservation a thing probably never thought this through You are killing a new person that you brought into the world made them live to the point transplantation can happen and just... Killed them for their body? "no" O..... Well.... It was an interesting thought to go through for my story got a tad interested there But honestly **I** wouldn't but I can see other people expecting it to happen one way or another just to have their child back or "revive" themselves it is all messed up but at the same time if you think a brain is what makes you you, then I can see the why's people can persuade themselves with And even if they come to love the clone before the age where the original kid can be brought back they know that the new kid they grew to love will leave them, so now what? Are you loving the clone more than your original child now? Do you love the original more than the clone? Why??

It seems like a way to scam grieving families. The only thing that’s the same is the genetics and even then it won’t be exactly the same because of surrogacy. It won’t have the memories. It won’t have the same training. It will not be the same. It’s like a company is trying to sell families “A Dogs Purpose” to families, that’s the kind of thing that destroys children’s understanding of life and death. Can you imagine the emotional whiplash of the first death that actually matters being your parents and not comprehending that death is permanent because your parents kept cloning your pet cat? Not just having someone you love die, but thinking you could bring them back and having to have a stranger explain to you mommy and daddy aren’t going to come back?

I totally get the sentiment behind cloning, and support people doing it, but I could never. I would rather adopt and provide for a new animal One thing about cloned animals, though, is that I feel like I'd be really annoyed if there were any minor differences in personality/traits/whatever, but that wouldn't be the clones fault and wouldn't be fair to them. An animal's life experiences have effects on them just like with humans, and any missed experiences could drastically change the animal and defeat the purpose of cloning an animal

The thing about this is cloning is only remaking your body. You cannot retrieve your memories and personalities. So if we were to bring buddy back, we would only be being his body and not his personality. You cannot remake a person or pet, only their body. They will make a stranger out of you. You will have to get to know them once again. THEY ARE NOT ZOMBIES. They are just another dog that looks like your dog, but HAS A HIGH CHANCE OF ACTING DIFFERENTLY.

This could be useful for ‘manufacturing’ (for want of a better term) guide dogs. A lot of puppies that get bred and trained for being guide dogs fail due to genetic issues that cause health concerns. If it were possible to simply clone a bunch of young dogs fresh out of training that didn’t have these genetic issues then there would be less wasted time and money on breeding and training puppies that can’t do the job and could result in more blind people given the freedom a guide dog provides. Same is true for other highly trained support animals obviously. Beyond that I don’t think it’s ok but it probably is going to be used more by horse owners as insurance for if something happens to their prize winner.

Not gonna lie, I considered this for my dog. My dog a mixed breed. I didn't get much time with her because we got her when she was already 4 years old and then by the time she was 8 I went to college and I've now been living in another state for 6 years. She's still alive, but she probably doesn't have much time, and because she's a mixed breed finding a similar dog will be extremely hard (we just decided to get a DNA test and try and find a dog similar). The website, in my opinion, does a horrible job marketing the reason "why" people would do this because they use a lot of purebreds in their promos. Purebreds tend to have similar personalities and are a lot easier to find a dog who looks identical to the first dog. In my case, my dog probably had years of breed mixing to come out with my dog. On the other hand, it seemed wrong to me to want a procedure for that. But on the other-other hand: how is this any different from surrogacy if the original donors were passed on? It's a really complex conversation in my opinion and it doesn't get talked about because it's so expensive.

No I would NEVER clone my dog. This feels like they're treating their dog, like "items" or "robots" that can be replaced easily. And I think even if they cloned them, dog 2 will never be dog 1, even if it's the same dna or whatever. Dog 2 will grow up differently and maybe develop a different personality with new memories. (Now I don't know if by preserving the genes or dna, also means preserving the memories of the previous one). And it's just weird to call your pets, a friend, a companion with the same name but with a "2". Like the man said, leave buddy alone. It's more useful and meaningful if you just adopt a new one, like there's more dogs in need.

I miss my girl more than anything that I had to let go due to cancer. It is painful and you never forget it, but I don't think I'd be comfortable with another dog exactly like her that isn't really her. That's the thing. Genetically the dog may look like your dog, but it does not guarantee that the clone will act exactly like your dog and have the same life span. Not the me thing the fact that if your dog dies of anything but old age, the clone would most likely end up with the same illness.

Would not clone a dog. Morality aside, I think learning to let go and accept that certain events are outside of our control is an important part of being a human being. Moreover, inability to let go in this context is inflicting your needs upon an animal who is not, in fact, your beloved pet. It just looks like him, or acts like him, but it isn't him, and spotting those differences will either lead you to reset your cloned pet for not being the original, or it will cause you to forget the original as memories of the clone become mixed up with memories of the original.

I don’t think we should breed Dogs but i have thought about how cute her Babies would have been. So i can understand, maybe cloning a steril Pet so it can have “children”. And i mean the Clone as the Offspring not that Clone as a Pet 2.0 and then it can have Kids. Honestly to see the Clone as a second Version ist disgusting to me.
